“The dictionary is the only place that success comes before work. Work is the key to success, and hard work can help you accomplish anything.” – Vince Lombardi
I remember when I was a kid. I could hit rocks with a bat to develop a good swing. Not today. The pitchers are better. The technology is more sophisticated. To maintain sound swing mechanics, you must work smarter – period.
It’s simple: To become a great hitter, you must have a good swing; you must be able to repeat it; and you must be able to make adjustments when it isn’t working.
Based on my professional training experience, it takes 3,000 reps to develop a habit. But there is more to it than just going in the backyard and taking 3,000 swings.
Your swing consists of six parts: the stance, load, approach, contact, extension and finish. Proper timing and tempo supports the swing mechanics.
This past off-season, I trained several MLB players. I made sure each of them received 3,000 reps to develop the load, contact, finish, timing and tempo phases of their swing. That’s a lot of reps. But without the reps, you just cannot compete against good pitching.
There are several drills in my Online Tool Box that you can do at home. These drills will help you build a Major League swing. And guess what? You won’t even need to hit a ball.
Building your swing is easier than you think when you know what to do and how often to do it. That’s why Diamond Directors was established.
There is only so much time in the day – and so much money – you can spend on professional training. Check out my Online Tool Box and begin training at home for success.
Remember: Good hitters don’t work hard; they work smarter.
