Why the ‘hoping and praying’ strategy doesn’t work

posted on January 27, 2021

January can be very scary for those who base their success on hope and prayer. November through January is the time of year that my hitters commit and discipline themselves to get reps by the thousands to build habits and strength.

To be more specific, there are seven parts to the swing and it takes 3,000 reps to build it. That’s 21,000 reps:

  1. Stance/Load
  2. Timing
  3. Tempo
  4. Tracking
  5. Approach
  6. Contact
  7. Extension/Finish

How many reps have you taken between November and now? Does it matter? I believe it does just like it matters how much or how little food you put in your body each day. Or like the amount of gas that you put in your vehicle matters.

For a look at how MLB legend and Atlanta icon Hank Aaron inspired my professional career, check out the story I did in Atlanta magazine.

Whether you like it or not, the baseball season will be starting soon, and hope and prayer will not be enough for you to achieve success. I have some good news and bad news for you. The good news is that when the spring/summer 2021 season is over, you’ll find out if what you did or didn’t do in January matter. As for the bad news, when the spring/summer 2021 season is over, you’ll find out if what you did or didn’t do.

To help keep your skills sharp, we have introduced a new type of Skill Build—our Virtual Skill Build, where I can help you develop hitting skills anytime, anywhere using anything. Check it out.

Remember: Intelligence tops being smart.
