C.J. Stewart at Turner Field in Atlanta with the coaching staff at The Walker School, which is lead by head baseball coach Mike Brady.

Having done this as long as I have, there are some things that are certain. For example, there is enough blame to go around when hitters aren’t performing. When hitters aren’t meeting expectations, there are a five things to check:

  1. The expectations
  2. The athlete
  3. The parents
  4. The baseball team coaches (manage games)
  5. The professional hitting coach (manage training)

Here are 20 questions that you must answer in private or public (it’s up to you) in order to make sure your hitting slump isn’t due to a relational slump between you, your parents, your coaches and/or your professional hitting coach.

Before you answer these questions, everyone must realize that:

  • Your responses may be positive and/or negative
  • Your responses aren’t meant to be hurtful, but helpful
  • Your responses should cause everyone on your team to make immediate adjustments
  • Your responses will expose/build the character of you, your parents, your coaches and/or your professional hitting coach
  • Your responses shouldn’t start an argument but conversation
  • Avoiding honest conversation prevents the development of you/baseball player
  • Honest conversation leads to trust, and that enables the development of you/baseball player
