I am the type of person who gratefully benefits from a hard reset every year. For some, January 1 is the first day of committing to trying new things. They look to see what works and what doesn’t.
For my hitters, August through November is our dedicated Assessment Phase, which prepares them for their what’s next.
“Before anything else, preparation is the key to success.”
The load is the fundamental part of hitting—a technique that positions the hitter to track the pitch. If done well, on time and on tempo, the hitter will be able to execute the other parts and get a lot of hits.
There are seven parts to the swing, including:
- Stance/load
- Timing
- Tempo
- Tracking
- Approach
- Contact
- Extension/Finish
In my last blog (Finding What Works to Get the Job Done), I taught what athleticism is, why it is important, and how to develop it.
Next week, I will share 5 ways you should try to load this fall, which will help you determine what works and what doesn’t. Do it and you will be on the way to more hits, and possibly, hit for more power in the spring.
To help keep your skills sharp, we have introduced a new type of Skill Build—our Virtual Skill Build—where I can help you develop hitting skills anytime, anywhere using anything.
Remember: Intelligence tops being smart.
