Focus. Commitment. Discipline.
These three things, I believe, are keys to success.
Focus is the center of interest. Commitment is making a promise and keeping a promise, starting with yourself and for yourself. Discipline is doing the things that need to be done even when you don’t want to do them.
I have struggled with ADHD all of my life, so focus is important to me for the sake of having energy. Focus is an exhaustible resource. Doing things I don’t care about with people I don’t care about wears me out.
When I discover where my focus should be, I commit to it, starting with what’s in it for me. I know that sounds harsh. If you have ever been on an airplane, you have heard the flight attendant tell all passengers in case of an emergency, put your oxygen mask on yourself first before helping others.
That’s important because if you lose your life, you cannot help anybody else.
Discipline is the premium unleaded fuel that I need to keep going. The Lord knows I do not feel like being my best every day. Discipline is actually a habit that can be built over time by doing the things you need to do when you don’t want to do them.
So, for November, get focused, be committed and be disciplined.
- What are the top three things that you are committed to do?
- Who/what gets you off track?
- Who/what gets you back on track?
