I am thankful to God that I have the physical strength to carry out the assignments He has for me here on earth. One of my earthly assignments is coaching others using baseball as the vehicle.
Through my work, there are three types of strength that I focus on with my hitters:
- Mental — How you think
- Emotional — How you feel about what you think about
- Physical — How you get things done
I currently drive a F150 truck and I love it. I am thinking about upgrading to something larger because I need more room to seat more people. Think about your hitting goals for a moment. I’m sure you want to hit for a high batting average combined with high power numbers. It takes physical strength to do it throughout a long season.
You have to be—and remain—committed and disciplined to get stronger. It will be worth it when you accomplish your goals.
You can obviously hire a professional strength coach to get physically stronger. In addition, I recommend you seek advice from a coach at your school to find out how to get stronger using the equipment you have on campus.
Another option is what I did when I was teenager—one who couldn’t financially afford a strength coach and was too shy to approach the football coach for early and late access to the weight room. I did a lot of push-ups and crunches. In fact, I did 200 of each every day.
You have to be—and remain—committed and disciplined to get stronger. It will be worth it when you accomplish your goals.
To help keep your skills sharp, we have introduced a new type of Skill Build—our Virtual Skill Build—where I can help you develop hitting skills anytime, anywhere using anything.
Remember: Intelligence tops being smart.
