One of the main reasons that I consider myself as an elite coach is because I coach my hitters to coach themselves. It’s an easy task
when the hitters can answer these four questions:
- What am I doing wrong?
- What immediate adjustment can I make when I do it wrong?
- How do I know when I have done it right?
- How do I remain consistent when I’ve done it right?
If you want to have a productive fall on the diamond, here are three drills you can do now:
Wall Drills (YouTube Videos)
I love using the wall for drills to build strength. Essentially, you are molding your body for the perfect swing:
The Wall Drill Mirror
This drill allows you to develop the skill of a short direct approach, which generates bat speed, enables you to make adjustments while the ball is in flight and allows you to maximize extension after contact with the ball.
Recommended reps per week: 100
The Wall Drill Flat Bat
This drill enables you to develop the skill of perfect alignment at the point of contact, which will allow you to maximize extension after contact with the ball.
Recommended reps per week: 100
The Wall Drill Finish
This exercise allows you to develop the skill of perfect alignment at the finish (completion) of your swing. The finish enables you to maximize extension.
Recommended reps per week: 100
Hitting Jack It
If you want to develop strength, body control and superb tempo as a hitter, you must have a collection of all of the Hitting Jack It tools.
My hitters use both the Tanner Tees and SwingAway for practice. Their hitting mats are great accessories. The mats hold them accountable for where they are hitting the ball because they must know when they’re doing things wrong so that they can make the appropriate adjustments while being consistent when they are doing things right.

Timing Drill
Timing is the No. 1 under-coached skill in baseball. Every time you face live pitching in a game or practice, with regards to timing, you either fail at it, develop the skill of or maintain the skill. Most hitters fail because they don’t see enough live pitching, and when they face it, rather than developing the skill of timing, they try to get a hit at all cost.
Click here to develop the skill of timing off a pitcher that throws 24 hours per day and seven days per week.
Remember: It takes 3,000 reps to develop a habit.
Remember: Good hitters don’t work hard; they work smart.
