With our new program, group training is a very important part of the process. To some people, group training has a negative connotation, but at Diamond Directors, we’re pushing to get rid of that.
To us, group training is a part of the training cycle that’s good for every player, at every level, even the pros. When you’re training in a group with a similar skill level, corrections made to the other players can be just as valuable as a correction a coach might make directly to you. In our group sessions, CJ might correct one players swing, and another player could hear that and realize he needs to correct the same problem with his own. From watching each other practice in a group, players have the opportunity to observe and learn from each other.
Group training is also valuable in that it helps prepare a player for the one-on-one training that comes next. In a customized one-on-one session, CJ is speaking directly to the client’s needs, strengths and skills.
It’s only time for that once players have a defined skillset and know how their bodies perform- otherwise, they can’t really take advantage of the one-on-one time. Players will have the most success if they go through the whole program, including the group training.
We’ve actually turned people away from the hitting lab and one-on-one training, because we didn’t think they were ready to benefit from it. It’s not about rushing through the steps, we want every player to really benefit from each one. Training is a continuous cycle. After group, it’s time for the hitting lab and one-on-one training with CJ.
There, CJ and the player might work on a customized swing. Once they’re done, we suggest the player go back through the group training again, using the new moves he’s learned. Practicing the customized swing will make it second nature, and group training in the Diamond Directors setting is the perfect place for that.
